Hopper Inc. and its affiliates ("HTS") provide the Cancel For Any Reason™ service ("CFAR") to customers in connection with certain otherwise non-refundable airline tickets purchased by customers ("you") through the Avion Rewards Travel booking portal (the "Portal").
CFAR is provided subject to, and in accordance with, the terms and conditions set forth below (the "CFAR Terms"), the Avion Rewards Travel Booking Terms and Conditions applicable to the Portal, and HTS’s Privacy Policy. By purchasing CFAR, you agree to the CFAR Terms, the Avion Rewards Travel Booking Terms and Conditions and HTS’s Privacy Policy.
Your booking of flight(s) ("Booking") is also subject to the applicable airline’s terms and conditions and privacy policies.
1. How it works.
Provided you meet all the conditions and subject to the exclusions and restrictions described in Section 5 and 6 below, the purchase of CFAR allows you to cancel your Booking online for any reason, up to twenty-four (24) hours before your first scheduled departure flight (based on the time zone of the departure airport), and receive a guaranteed refund equal to a certain percentage (e.g. 80%) of your Booking’s base fare and applicable taxes and fees, for all passengers included in the Booking. The applicable refund percentage will be disclosed to you at the time you purchase CFAR and stated in your CFAR purchase confirmation email. The base fare is the amount that is indicated as such in your Booking and the applicable taxes and fees include, without limitation, government-imposed taxes, airport fees, security charges and other mandatory charges included in the price of the Booking.
If you book a fare that allows you to cancel your Booking and receive a travel credit from the airline, you will have the option to either exercise CFAR and receive a guaranteed refund equal to a certain percentage (e.g. 80%) of your Booking’s base fare and applicable taxes and fees, as described in sub-Section 1 (i) above, or obtain the travel credit offered by the airline, equal to 100% of the Booking price (including base fare and taxes and fees) ("Travel Credit"). The Travel Credit may be used to book a future trip with the airline, subject to the airline’s applicable validity period. Please contact the airline directly for complete details regarding the use and validity of the Travel Credit. If you choose to obtain the Travel Credit, you will not be eligible to exercise CFAR.
2. CFAR Fee. The fee to purchase CFAR (the "CFAR Fee") varies depending on the trip that you’re booking and is charged per passenger and per flight. The total CFAR Fees (including taxes) for all passengers and flights included in the Booking will be disclosed to you before you purchase CFAR. The CFAR Fee is a non-refundable service fee, with the limited exceptions stated in Section 5 below. The CFAR Fee is dynamically configured based on a number of factors, including flight availability, timing, route, fare characteristics and cost, and other booking-specific considerations.
3. Form and Timing of Refund.
Upon a valid cancellation of your Booking in accordance with these CFAR Terms, HTS will credit your refund directly to the original payment method(s) you used to pay for your Booking.
If you paid for your Booking using multiple payment methods, the refund will be credited proportionally to the original payment method(s). The exact refund amount will be made clear to you before you finalize your Booking and will be indicated in the CFAR confirmation email.
If you use a credit card to pay for your Booking, please allow up to ten (10) business days for the refund to be credited to your credit card account. If you use Avion points and/or a travel credit, the refund will be credited instantly. Avion points will be refunded to the Avion Rewards account from which they were withdrawn.
4. Valid Cancellation. Except as provided in Sections 5 and 6, in order to be eligible for a refund under CFAR or a Travel Credit, you must cancel your Booking using the link provided in the Booking confirmation email you received, or by accessing the “My Trips” section in the Portal at avionrewards.com, within twenty-four (24) hours before your first scheduled departure flight (based on the time zone of the departure airport), as stated in your CFAR purchase confirmation email. Once this timeframe has elapsed, CFAR will expire and your Booking will be subject to the applicable airline’s cancellation policy.
5. Exclusions.
(i) CFAR cannot be exercised upon the occurrence of the earliest of the following events:
a. any voluntary cancellation of your Booking by you during the airline’s permitted void window;
b. cancellation of any flight that is part of your Booking by the airline for any reason, including as a result of a force majeure event; or
c. any circumstance in which you have requested, or are otherwise entitled to, compensation from the airline for the cancellation of any flight or the Booking for which you have purchased CFAR.
If any of the circumstances described in (a)-(c) above apply to you, you are entitled to a refund of the CFAR Fee. To request your refund, you must contact support at 1-877-636-2870.
(ii) CFAR does not include any paid add-ons you may add to your Booking, such as, without limitation: seat selections, checked bags, insurance coverage, surcharge for sports and specialty equipment, lounge passes, in-flight Wi-Fi passes, etc.
6. Other Restrictions.
(i) CFAR may only be added at the time you purchase your Booking; it cannot be added afterwards.
(ii) CFAR must be purchased for all passengers included in the Booking and for all flights that are part of such Booking. Exercising CFAR for any flight that is part of the Booking will result in the cancellation of all purchased flights for all passengers on the Booking, and for all legs or segments (i.e. outbound and return flights) of such Booking. If there is more than one (1) passenger on the Booking, the primary passenger on the Booking controls the exercise of CFAR.
(iii) If you modify your Booking (including by changing the origin, destination or date of travel), you remain eligible to cancel your Booking under CFAR. However, please note that for your modified Booking, CFAR will expire at the earlier of the following: (1) the original cancellation deadline, as indicated in your original CFAR purchase confirmation email, or (2) twenty-four (24) hours before the newly scheduled departure time of the first flight on your itinerary. If you cancel your Booking after the applicable deadline, you will not be entitled to any refund under CFAR. If you are entitled to a refund, such refund will be calculated based on the amount of the original Booking, without taking into account any changes to the total purchase cost resulting from modifications to the Booking. Please contact support at 1-877-636-2870 for assistance with canceling your Booking after making a modification.
(iv) CFAR may not be offered for every flight sold on the Portal. If you modify your Booking and the subsequent flight is not eligible for CFAR, HTS reserves the right to immediately terminate CFAR for the entire Booking. If this happens, you are entitled to a refund of the CFAR Fee. To request your refund, you must contact support at 1-877-636-2870. HTS reserves the right to refuse to allow any customer to purchase CFAR for any lawful reason, including fraud or misuse.
(v) Except as otherwise explicitly provided in these CFAR Terms, CFAR is only valid for the Booking for which CFAR was purchased, is not transferable to other passengers and cannot be carried over to any other Booking.
7. Not Insurance. CFAR and the CFAR Terms are not intended to constitute an offer to insure, do not constitute insurance or an insurance contract, and do not replace insurance obtained or otherwise available to you such as travel insurance or coverage that may be included with your credit card.
8. Additional Information. Certain jurisdictions, including Canada and the European Union, have adopted laws and/or regulations requiring airlines to compensate passengers in the event of certain cancellations, delays or other disruptions to scheduled air travel ("Passenger Rights Regimes"). You may have rights under these Passenger Rights Regimes regardless of whether you purchased CFAR. For more detailed information regarding the circumstances in which you may be entitled to a refund even if you do not purchase CFAR, refer to the applicable airline’s terms and conditions.
9. Modification. HTS may update these CFAR Terms from time to time, at its discretion. The most current version of the CFAR Terms will always be accessible from the Portal, and you are responsible for reviewing them each time before purchasing CFAR, as they may have changed since the last time you reviewed them or purchased CFAR.
10. Responsibility for CFAR. HTS is solely responsible for providing CFAR and administering the CFAR Terms. Royal Bank of Canada has no responsibility for CFAR or these CFAR Terms.
